Quick Tips: Protect Your Home While You’re Out of Town

Planning on a trip for the holidays? (Take us with you!) Before you leave, take a few precautions to make sure your home is safe.

  • Set timers for interior lights.
  • Make sure electronics are plugged into a surge protector or unplug all together in the event of a power surge.
  • Don’t blast your travel plans on social media!
  • If freezing & snowy weather is a possibility while you’re gone, protect your pipes and leave a faucet dripping.
  • Let your security company know you’re leaving, and don’t forget to set your alarms when you take off!
  • Triple check all the windows and doors are locked.
  • If you’re going to be gone for an extended amount of time, arrange for someone to care for your lawn.
  • Ask a neighbor to pickup your mail, newspaper and move your trash bins to give the illusion someone is home.
  • Don’t leave spare keys outside under the mats or in clever rock boxes. Give a key to a close neighbor instead!
  • Lock the garage door that leads into your home.
